The National Chairperson of the Women’s Council of Uganda, Faridah Kibowa, has called on women across the country to actively seek leadership positions instead of feeling excluded from national politics.
Speaking during a discussion on parliamentary leadership, Kibowa said the ruling National Resistance Movement government has over the years created opportunities for women to participate in leadership.
She said women should not feel discouraged if they do not occupy the positions of Speaker or Deputy Speaker of Parliament, but should instead continue supporting leaders entrusted with advancing the women’s agenda.
“I don’t want women of this country to say that we have been sidelined because we have not taken the position of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker,” Kibowa said.
She noted that women leaders must continue pushing for representation and taking advantage of opportunities available within government and Parliament.
Meanwhile, Linda Agnes Auma, the Woman Member of Parliament for Lira District, also expressed support for Thomas Tayebwa, describing him as responsive and supportive toward women legislators.
“I have worked with Tayebwa and I don’t see any problem with him. He has always been there for women in Parliament. Whenever we invite him, he is very responsive,” she said.
Her remarks come amid ongoing discussions on leadership representation and the role of women in Uganda’s political space.
